2008 - A Wonderful Year

Here is a recap... Happy New Year Everyone!

The Webbs in 2008 – In with Two, Out with Three

When Amy and I sat down at the beginning of 2008 to map out a to-do list for the year, we pretty much knew what was going to be on there. It looked something like this:

• Ty must finish his MBA
• Ty must find a job
• We are going to have to move from North Carolina to somewhere
• Oh, and Amy must deliver the baby in her belly

The problem was that it wasn’t totally clear in what order those things would happen.

It didn’t take long for us to check the job box off the list. In January, I accepted a position with Nissan North America in Nashville. I was accepted into a general management rotational program which would allow me to rotate through five different jobs in five totally different departments, each for about a year, before I settle down into a more permanent role with the company. So now we knew that we would be headed back to Tennessee sometime before I started with Nissan in July.

As 2008 sauntered on, the other pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. It was starting to look like we were in for one crazy summer. Now as far as I was concerned, it was all timed just perfectly. I was to graduate from Duke in mid-May and the baby wasn’t due until early June. That left us two whole weeks to pack up everything we owned and move from North Carolina back to Nashville, if everything went according to “plan”. Perhaps I overestimated the excitement of my 8½ month pregnant wife at the prospect of getting in a car and driving through some of the least populated terrain east of the Mississippi. Did I mention that in April, she was put on strict bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy because her doctor discovered that her fluid levels were extremely high meaning that she might blow at any moment (those are my words, not the doctors).

But I digress. I did graduate with my MBA in May and two days later Amy did survive a long and extremely uncomfortable 9-hour drive in the backseat of her parents’ car while doing a masterful job of keeping the hot baby in the oven. We were even able to move into our new house in Franklin, Tennessee with enough time to spare to paint the nursery and get a bit settled in.

Then on June 5th, we welcomed Asher Luke Webb to our family and he is absolutely perfect in every way. He smiles all the time at anybody who cares to make eye contact (and we have plenty of takers on this). He has been sleeping through the night pretty much since he was two months old, which has been a blessing.

God truly blessed us with an amazing 2008. We managed to pack several years’ worth of events into an interesting three-week period this summer. Relative to that crazy time, life has seemed pretty uneventful the rest of this year. As Amy and I look back on one of the most exciting years of our lives, we also look ahead with great anticipation to so many more years to come. If you would like to keep a little closer tabs on us than a once-a-year Christmas letter, please visit our family blog at http://tyandamy.blogspot.com.

Merry Christmas!!!

Ty, Amy, and Asher
